The Hop Though Step PDF Print E-mail
Players take off and land on front foot going forward, to get up to ball early and stop rotation of hips.

The Hop Through Step - 'Before'
Ian’s split step at the start of this move is totally inadequate. He lands with a base that is too narrow, which in turn means that he can not sink into his split or store any elastic energy. As a result of this, any subsequent explosive move is impossible. As he gets into his hitting position, there is already a lack of legwork, which means correct rotation will be difficult. This can be seen as he swings through his stroke and brings the right foot through far too early. He tries to end with good balance, but the damage has already been done. It is also worth noting that Ian’s left knee caves inwards after he has finished his shot, indicating a strength problem.

The Hop Through Step - 'After

Iain’s first step forward is now more dynamic resulting in a quicker movement up to the ball. There is also a definite hop forward from left foot to left foot, while the right foot stays behind his body as he swings.
